Merrion seek Youth Head Coach

Merrion cricket club is one of Ireland’s largest and most diverse cricket clubs. We have a growing and thriving Youth Cricket section with around 150 boys and girls regularly training and playing matches. We are looking to grow our numbers and provide greater organization and structure that will allow all of our youth players to reach their full potential.

The role of the Head Coach

  • The Head Coach will lead the cricketing development of all youth team players: technical, mental and tactical so that everyone at Merrion has the chance to improve and enjoy their cricket
  • The club has developed a well -structured coaching plan/framework for the youth teams
  • The head coach will drive the delivery of the clubs coaching plan as well as changing/developing the plan as required
  • The head coach will  stretch and develop elite players to succeed in adult cricket and subsequently into representative cricket
  • To foster a warm and welcoming environment that makes cricket enjoyable and inclusive for all

The responsibilities of the role are:

  • Taking pre-season training typically on 4 Sundays pre-season
  • Running the Easter Camp 
  • Running an elite secondary school camp for the first two weeks of the summer – aiming to get top level coaching and develop as many of our existing cricketers as possible
  • Running the broader summer camp for 6 weeks in the summer
  • Managing the roster of coaches to ensure that training sessions have the appropriate level of coaching supervision
  • Working with the other specialist coaches connected with the club to provide expert, specialist one on one coaching / clinics that help to stretch our players skills
  • Continuing to develop the coaching framework to ensure that there is a structured approach to development for each of the age groups. Ideally this would be enabled by: more use of the bowling machine, less time in nets and more drills and technical coaching
  • Acting as Head Coach for the Junior and Minor Boys teams (as well as facilitating / enabling the other teams)
  • Coach, or organize coaching in partner schools where required
  • Working with the team managers to ensure that selection is fair and inclusive

The role will be supported by the following people:

  • The main point of contact for the role is the head of Coaching and Player Development who sits on the youth committee 
  • Each age group has a team manager – a parent – who will support with organization, selection and coaching
  • Youth Administrator
  • The youth committee and the management committee are on hand to ensure the success of the Youth Director and support with whatever requirements they may have

Salary 

  • Salary negotiable. April – August to be paid monthly (or by other arrangement between coach & treasurer) 
  • Performance related bonus of up to 15% on salary based on review with chair of Youth Cricket and chair of Cricket Committee

The candidate will need to apply for garda vetting and the role is dependent on successfully being vetted. We are looking for someone with experience in working with sports clubs and children and who can bring energy and efficiency to the role!
