Best Wishes from Merrion

It has been an eventful year in all senses of the term. But for our purposes here we will stick to the cricket.

Merrion has come through the many challenges presented by 2021.  Our Premier [1st XI] Open and Womens teams have put their names on trophies and there was more success for our 4th XI [Division 8] and our 5th XI [Division 14] in winning their respective leagues.

Our youth section has grown back over 250, a very healthy number. There was a massive level of activity with the launch of a kids training sessions on Friday evenings which proved very popular. We had teams in nearly all age groups for both boys and girls and ran summer camps and an academy throughout the season with coaching extending into the Autumn.

In terms of development, the club published its new Strategic Plan [available to view on the website]. To support our development plans the club completed a four lane practice outdoor facility. For this we are indebted to the generosity of our members who provided the bulk of the capital investment through donations.

Unfortunately the shortened season took a toll on the amount of social cricket that was played and hopefully we can do better next year. But all three teams – the Taverners, the Cavaliers and the Veterans – managed to play at least a few games at Anglesea Road.

On the social front the availability of food provided by Leroys encouraged many members and guests to avail of the excellent outdoor hospitality in the club over the summer.

Further details will follow about the plans for next year. For the moment best wishes to all our members and their families at Christmas and stay safe.

A final thank you to Aidan Dowling from our Taverners who provided the cartoon.
