With a third of their matches completed, Merrion 1st XI currently lie in fifth place in the first phase of the Leinster Premier [D1] League at the end of May. Once the 12 competing teams have played each other once, the league will divide into two, a Premier League and the Championship. So getting to the cutoff point in the top six is crucial. With a good return of bonus points to add to their rained off game against Cork and their victories over Malahide and The Hills, Merrion have a reasonable margin over the other clubs [Malahide and North County] with two wins out of four. But absolutely nothing is guaranteed and key matches are coming up over the next few weeks. In terms of the final phase of the Premier League and Championship, the results of matches played now are carried forward. In terms of the Cup Competitions, Merrion have a bye into the second round of the Irish Senior Cup where they have a home tie against Dunemana. Always a difficult match. Merrion were knocked out in the first round of the Leinster Senior Cup by Clontarf.
