There was no shortage of drama heading into the last week of the season as Merrion played out two cliffhangers, sadly losing both by the closest of margins.
MERRION 3 VS KNOCKHARLEY 1
The 3rds travelled to Knockharley and soon were bundled out for a paltry 64 – Akshay Dubey [17(44)] was the only batsman to reach double figures. However, they put on a spirited fight thanks to brilliant bowling yet again by Vishal Singh [5/29] and he was well supported by Beant Bhathal [3/23]. In the end, Knockharley managed to win the match by two wickets.
MERRION 2 VS PEMBROKE 2
The 2nds went into the game without most of their regular players, but they put on a clinical display to canter home by six wickets. Bowling first, Pembroke was bundled out for 138 – 2 wickets apiece for Dan Forkin [2/26], Oisin Bhoja [2/23], and Sean Sandys [2/30]. Sean Hussey started the chase with three crisp boundaries, as he and Oisin Bhoja [18(32)] put on vital runs early in the innings. Merrion was 35/3 in the 8th over when Himanshu Kamat [26(46)] and Niranjan Shankar [51*(71)] joined hands for a 62-run match-winning partnership.
MERRION W1 VS CLONTARF W1
A fantastic winning streak of our Women’s 1sts was brought to end by Clontarf as they beat Merrion by just six runs in the Pilkington plate final. Read the full summary here – PILKINGTON PLATE CLIFFHANGER!
Following the 2nds game on Saturday, there was an awards night recognizing all performers and volunteers. A full account of this will be published in upcoming articles and we will also select a Team of the Year. Keep checking this space for more updates.
