Vishal shines with 7-fer! Your weekly roundup and TOTW #12

MERRION W2 VS YMCA W2

The women’s 2nds secured a comfortable 6-wicket victory against YMCA W2 on Monday, making light work of a target of 113 runs. Arlene Stanton [2/12] and Isabel Light [47*(42)] were the standout performers.

MERRION 2 VS LEINSTER 2

In their midweek refix, Merrion 2 succumbed to a poor loss against Leinster on a good batting track. The bowlers did well to keep Leinster down to 123/7 in 20 overs, but the batsmen could not support the bowlers, bundling out for just 75.

MERRION W1 VS HILLS W1

There was another loss as women’s 1sts lost to Hills by 7 wickets. Merrion only scored 119/4 despite Cecilia Joyce‘s 49*(38) but it wasn’t enough for a win.

MERRION 2 VS RAILWAY UNION 2

The men’s 2nds bounced back to record a thrilling win against Railway Union on a dustbowl of a pitch where there was turn and uneven bounce right from ball one. Despite only managing 151, the team knew they could defend it. And so they did, bundling out Railway Union for 134.

While Chirag Poddar [44(77)] and Niranjan Shankar [41(58)] shared a 70-run stand between them, Oisin Bhoja [4/36 off 10 overs] & Daniel Forkin [2/18 off 10 overs] bowled excellent spells. Special mentions to Himanshu Sharma [a vital 17 runs at the end on debut which made a big difference] and Chirag’s wicket-keeping [4 catches and 1 runout].

MERRION 1 VS HILLS 1

The 1sts secured a comprehensive full-points win over Hills at home. Dom Joyce [73(60)] roared back to form, and he was well-supported by Swapnil Modgill [45(65)] and Amish Sidhu [30*(25)]. The Hills chase never got going, and they were eventually all-out for 107. Jack Carty [3/24], Amish [2/6] and Swapnil [2/16] were all among the wickets.

MERRION 6 VS GOREY 1

There was another low-scoring encounter when the 6ths faced Gorey 1. They successfully defended 134, Alan Parkinson producing a player-of-the-match performance with 32 and 3/11 off his 7 overs. Notable performances from Rishabh Sharma [2/25] and Caleb Owen [2/27].

MERRION 5 VS LAOIS 2

Laois 2 beat Merrion 5ths by a big margin of 92 runs. A chase of 264 never picked up, and we were bowled out for 171.

MERRION 4 VS SWORDS 1

The 4ths were well-beaten by Swords 1, losing by 9 wickets. Despite Sid Kalra‘s 64 & Rob Stanton‘s 28, the 4ths could only muster 145. It was never going to be enough, as Swords reached the target in under 24 overs.

MERRION CC 1ST XI VS WORCESTERSHIRE CRICKET

Last week also saw our seniors take on Worcestershire CC. Handy knocks from Alan Parkinson [53(36)], Michael Hingston [49(35)], and Rob Barker [45(49)] lifted Merrion to 219 in 35 overs. They successfully defended it by restricting Worcestershire to 168/8- Jim Walsh [2/4], Liam Casey [2/10] and Alan Parkinson [2/14] – all sharing the wickets.
