Action Plan for Womens and Girls Cricket published

A three year Action Plan for Womens and Girls cricket has been published by Cricket Ireland.

The Plan envisages rapid growth in the sport for women and girls with a strategic objectives that include cricket becoming a top 10 choice of sport for girls in Ireland, the development of national programme to increase participation, build up the number of female coaches and significantly increase the visibility of the sport at international level and through Super Series matches.

More funding is promised and a 50% increase in participation nationally. The current baseline is just over 1500 players registered across all age groups. So there is a lot of room to grow. At an international level Ireland are currently ranked 10th at ODI and T20s and it is critical that they qualify for all the major ICC tournaments to ensure that the profile of the women’s game continues to rise.
