Memorable Day for Merrion in the Premier League

Merrion had scored 350 or more in an innings on ten occasions prior to Saturday’s game [2nd May] in the Premier League [Preliminary Stage] against Civil Service. The highest ever innings score for Merrion [415/8] was against Malahide in the Senior Cup in 2016.

Scoring inflation is evident from the table below. Merrion only made 350 plus in one game prior to 2000, and that was in a four day timeless Senior Cup Match in Park Avenue in 1961. Which Merrion lost. This match recorded the highest ever aggregate runs scored in Leinster Senior competitions.

Returning to Saturdays game. Merrion made 380/5 and bowled Civil Service out for 172. The margin of victory of 208 was the fifth highest ever for Merrion. The game also included a maiden senior century for Swapnil Modgill [140]* and a maiden senior half century for Seb Dijkstra [62]. In the what might have been column, Cornelius Botha was only one shot away from recording the fastest ever half century for Merrion [45* in 15 balls]. But there is plenty of time yet in the season.

• Modgill has scored two centuries in the Irish Senior. Cup but these do not count for the Leinster Senior averages.

Finally, a mention for a very exciting win for the 3rd XI in Terenure by three wickets off the last ball of the match. Sidhu [batting at 3] made 79* and almost single handedly hauled Merrion across the winning line. The rest of the runs came from the Molins father and son act, Oliver [44] and Greg [30]. Bragging rights for the younger this week.
