Overseas Player for 2025

The Management Committee is delighted to announce that Muhammad Manack will join the club as the men’s overseas player for the 2025 season.

Muhammad, otherwise known as Mo, is 22 years of age and hails from Johannesburg in South Africa, where he has been one of the leading run scorers in club cricket for the last number of years, and has recently broken into the Lions first-class setup where he has made 3 first-class appearances. In this time, Mo has a batting average of just over 35, while he has also played 5 T20s for the state. Mo also bowls right-arm off-spin and has picked up wickets at the first-class level in South Africa.

Mo completed his education in South Africa at St Stithians College in Johannesburg. Here he captained and led teams the whole way up through the various age groups. This is a trait that will no doubt prove invaluable in addition to his runs and wickets, as he joins up with our senior squad in April.

Mo comes from a strong cricketing family, with his father Hussein having played over 50 first-class matches in South Africa before transitioning into coaching and commentary following his playing career, which he continues to do to this day.

Mo will also deliver a significant number of coaching hours in the club’s youth section during his time with Merrion, where Mo doubt he will be able to pass on much of what he’s learnt to our younger generation.

The Management Committee is very excited about Mo’s arrival and have full faith that he will add to the men’s 1st XI, as they look to build on a strong season in 2024. Subject to visa approval, we look forward to welcoming Mo Manack to Merrion in April, ahead of the new season.
