All three womens teams made it onto the pitch this week. On Tuesday the 1st XI took on Malahide in the cup and came away as resounding winners by nine wickets. Malahide batted first and were bowled out for 78. Wickets for Saibh Breslin [3/23], Celeste Raack [2/16] and Niamh McNulty [2/18].
It didn’t take long to knock off the runs, losing only one wicket. Leah Paul led the way with 41* with support from Rebecca Stokell [27] in a 74 run opening partnership.
At the same time the 3rd XI took on Clontarf 3rds. As it is meant to be the team brings together a mix of age and experience [not necessarily the same thing]. Included in this first outing were two mother and daughter combinations [Bhojas and Byrnes]. Merrion batted first and used up their full 20 overs. Lucy Kay led the way with 32 out of a total of 68. It was not enough and Clontarf came out winners by eight wickets.
And finally, the 2nd XI took on North Kildare 2nd XI on Tuesday. NK batted first and made 95/8 in their 20 overs. Merrion won by four wickets. [Further details to follow]
