Merrion v Greystones [Minor Cup R1]
Merrion batted first and scored a competitive 123 for 5 of their 20 overs. This was thanks to some great partnerships with Patrick Hawley retiring on 29 no, Prathyush Kalamanathan scoring 15 and Ollie Molins hitting a quick fire 20 no. Merrion bowled really well with great spells from Prathyush, James Verdon, Sibha Bhoja, Louis Graby and Connor Wood. It was also great to see some good performances from new member Oliver Maclachlan. A committed fielding effort saw Merrion hold Greystones to 63 for 3 to win by 60 runs.
Merrion v Terenure [Junior Cup R1]
The Junior Boys kicked off their season with a comfortable 8 wicket win over Terenure in the cup at Anglesea Road on Sunday morning.
Terenure got off to a strong start with the bat with an unbeaten 50 run partnership but Merrion fought back strongly in the second half of the innings to leave a target of 95 to win. Seb Dijkstra bowled a very tight spell of 4 overs for just 6 runs and debutant Alister Verdon took a sharp caught and bowled chance. Sean Roets hit middle stump twice in an over to end with figures of two wickets for just one run. Sean Sandys took his first ever hat trick to wipe out the middle order including a sharp slip catch from Declan de Kock, a caught behind from Simon Kelly, and a clean bowled.
The Merrion batsmen made light work of the target getting home within 12 overs led by some destructive clean hitting by Isaac Dijkstra who retired on 36* and finished off with a steepling six down to the pavilion by Declan de Kock who finished on 30*.
