Tight at the Top

Merrion Women 1st XI and Clontarf Women 1st XI are neck and neck at the top of the Sprint Coatings Division 1 League. With five matches to play there is only a single point between the two teams.

Elsewhere the W1st XI are due to play in two finals, the Womens Senior Cup against Pembroke [August 5th] and the Pilkington Cup [40 Overs] in early September.

A total of 23 players have turned out in League Matches. In terms of the batting Polly Inglis is way out in front with 408 runs at an average of 102. Three other players have made more than 100 runs.

The Womens 2nd XI are currently in second position in their league [D3] but with games in hand. The team was unlucky to lose the semi-final of the cup last weekend against Clontarf W3 to a bowl out in the rain.

The Womens 3rd XI also lost out in the semi-finals of their cup competition and are currently in 7th position in their league with four wins out of 10 completed games.

Finally, congratulations to Niamh MacNulty, Annabel Squires, Ally Boucher and Isabel Light on their selection for Ireland’s U17 squad competing in the  Cricket Ireland Womens Future Series and then the TriSeries with Scotland and the Netherlands.

PS – the photo is from a few years back. Only one of the team is still playing cricket [as far as I know]. But can anyone [other than Leah, and no points for picking her out] name the rest of the team.
