Six Hitting for Merrion

A recent article on the Cricket Leinster website had a look at the players who had hit the most sixes in the 2019 season in Senior cricket. Only one Merrion player figured, Michael Lewis, who just made the threshold with 20 sixes. But what of Merrion itself – who are the biggest hitters in the club.

If we look at the club as a whole [and including T20 competitions] seven players cleared the boundary ropes more than ten times in 2019. Max Sorensen took over the lead from Lewis with some big hitting in the Alan Murray competition.

Taking a longer view, over the past nine years for which records were kept, it is Beant Bhathal [BB] who comes out on top with over 100 maximums. Indeed taking the period as a whole in league and cup matches he averages more than 1 six per match.

The record for the most sixes in an innings goes to Timcy Khanduja who hit 13 from Merrion 4th XI v Rush 2nd XUI in Kenure in 2018 in an innings of 207. In the same year he hit 11 sixes against Adamstwon in Corkagh Park, again for the 4ths, in a score of 125. The only other occasion when a Merrion player reached double figures in sixes is when Brad Spanner in 2001 hit 13 against Railway Union in an innings of 204. .
