Sunday’s innings score of 391/5 for the 2nd XI against the Hills 2nd XI prompted a search of the records books to see where that would rank among the highest innings totals by a Merrion team.
The first thing to say is that Junior Records have only been kept by Cricket Leinster since 2010. It is the highest total by the 2nd XI over this period, the previous best being 364/6 v Pembroke 2nd XI in Sydney Parade in 2018. It is the second highest by any team below the 1st XI. The record is held by the 4th XI who scored 396/5 against Rush 2nd XI in Kenure, also in 2018. Given that more runs are scored today than in the past, and based on fading memory, I think it is reasonable to conclude that this is the highest innings total by the 2nd XI.
The Senior Records go back to 1926 when Merrion first competing in the Leinster Senior League. There are two scores of over 400.

The 2nd XI score was the fourth highest ever by a Merrion team. It is also arguably the biggest winning margin ever. The 1st XI game at the top of the list v Malahide had reduced overs in the second innings so the adjusted winning margin was 298.
One final note. The top ten scores all led to victors except for the multi-day cup game in 1961 against Railway Union. In what was the highest ever aggregate score in a single innings club game in Leinster, Merrion scored 378 and lost.
